OUT OF OFFICE.

Also, Ihr Guten. Geduld!

[ My dears! Today I'm writing directly from the computer in the beach bar "La Bamba" in Palma de Mallorca where I spent the last four weeks. I got to know somebody – Pablo! He owns a popular hotel and offered me a job as tourist host. So I decided to cancel my diploma project and teach the latest step aerobic moves to ladies in their mature years at the beach for the next three years… Pop! Unfortunately reality looks different: since more than four weeks now I have a bad tendonitis which moved into both arms and makes me wearing a plaster. I flew to my parents to put my arms to rest for some days. Those lines are typed in by my lovely dad. The mean thing: my project is almost finished but without my arms I can't manage the few little things which need to be done. There is a lot to tell and to show but I wanna postpone this to when I'm healthy again. Patience! ]

ANJA DEVINE. A SELF-PARODY.

[ For introduction a quotation from my beloved friend Ina (yesterday, on our way to Kevin Devine): "Anja, are there any other rock stars you are a groupie of?" Well, depends on how "groupie" is defined. Wikipedia: "A groupie is a mostly female person, who is spending a lot of her attention on an idol or star of the art and culture scene. Being a groupie goes beyond the normal behavior of a fan but doesn't end up in being a stalker." Uhm, okay… so I guess, there actually are some more artists I pay a lot of attention to. But there are only very few I can listen to in every situation – one of them is, guess who, Kevin Devine! This morning I checked one point on my list for a successful year 2010: See Kevin Devine live! Check! Yesterday night he and his Goddamn Band played at the lovely D:Qliq in Luxemburg (not far away from Trier) and performed mainly songs from his current album "Brother's Blood". The show was great – there is no bad Kevine Devine concert! (Just check out on YouTube) There is only lame audience – and unfortunately the one from yesterday consisted of only very few people and was really boring and no one was really into it (except for me, of course). Sad. I took some pictures again for my book but they are pretty crappy. Also the marriage proposal stayed out. So there's no happy ending for the story of Kevin's "Write Your Story Now" which I will compose now for my book. Well, maybe next year on the obligatory Kevin Devine concert for 2011! ]

EIGHT.

Endspurt, Freunde!

[ The eighth and last of the twelve songs which will be illustrated on a poster is "Hit The Switch" by Bright Eyes. See above how it looks like. The remaining four songs and the related stories will appear on usual book pages and be binded between the plastic pockets which contain the posters. Final spurt! ]

LET THE MUSIC HEAL YOUR SOUL.

Servus Miteinand!

[ Hey friends.
Today I wanna show you the latest musical surprises which I received recently and wanna shout out a big Thank You to the creators. It's always a big enrichment for my grey everyday life.
One of the leading parts in my diploma project goes to my friend Pascal from Austria, who I got to know like nine years ago on summer holidays. He was and still is responsible for my main musical development. He thought about which songs it would be that significantly shaped his life, burned them on CD for me and wrote some lovely stories for explanation. A great mix! ]

[ Furthermore he created a tracklist with his current top hits which is aaaaawesome, of course! ]

[ During my highschool-time I hung out a lot with Marco and nowadays he's pretty much the only person from this time period who I'm in regular contact with. And I'm really glad about that because he often comes up with a lot of great ideas – especially concerning music. He made a mix under the motto "Electro" which shall give me the needful drive for the final stage of the project. It's working pretty well. Especially with Scooter I'm going crazy (Check this out!). Also Marco's art work is pretty convincing. He should become a cover designer! ]

[ Marco number two from Gießen sent me a really invigorating Mix-CD. We got to know each other not so long ago in past december in this crazy night of the Kevin Devine-concert (I reported in my post of december 17th). Marco is working at the MuK and he's a DJ, too. So he's always up to date about the latest stuff in the alternative music scene. His CD showed me a lot of new artists and is a real ear candy (lovely word, huh?). ]

[ Thanks, Lovelies. I promise that I will send back some equally nice presents to you as soon as I have back my social life. Cheers. ]

SEVEN.

[ Poster number seven shows the place where I find myself when I'm listening to Sigur Rós and close my eyes. Haha… This year there won't be any new stuff released by the band because some of them are getting babies and such. But singer Jónsi is doing really crazy things all alone as well (check out his web page) and is also touring through the US (for those who are there at the moment: Berkeley/San Francisco and Lawrence).

Tomorrow I will lose some of my wisdom in the form of two teeth and hope I'll be fit again really soon to continue working on the project. It's due to the end of March! ]

NOW PLAYING.

Huhu.

[ Hey. As threatened, I wanna show some of the stuff I designed so far today.
But at first let me explain the concept of my diploma project again real quick.
Its title will be "Now Playing" like the indication on displays of stereos, mp3-players or media players on a computer.
1. Main book:
12 songs, which are very important to me (see tracklist in the post of 16th October 2009). The stories which I connect with them will
appear on the backside of one poster each (size: ca. 17''x25'', folded in a plastic pocket with the size of ca. 10''x10''). The frontside of those posters shows an illustration which refers to my individual associations to the song. The plastic pockets with the posters will be binded in a book.
2. book "Artists":
Furthermore there will be a book (size: ca. 10''x10'') which introduces the musicians of the chosen songs with some info data, their work history and – if existing – interviews I've conducted with them and concert pictures I've taken.
3. book "Friends":
In a third book (size: ca. 10''x10'') I pay tribute to the friends which appear in the stories I told. Here one can read an interview with them and see how great those people are!
The three books will be boxed in some kind of slipcase and come with a CD with the 12 songs. So one can listen to the music while reading the stories and interviews and looking at the pictures.
Shown in this post are the posters I've made so far. According to my design concept I take elements from the front picture of the poster and use them for the design of the associated pages in the books "Artists" and "Friends". I will show some of those soon.
I'm open and thankful for useful critique and advice.
Cheers…]

ANOTHER ONE.

Danke, Robert!

[ When I wrote this last post yesterday night the next musical present was on its way. It reached me today in the mailbox – another great Mix-CD from Robert (the Winnipeg-guy) with a lot of awesome canadian bands. It really made my day which started so grey and confusing. Thanks, Robert! ]

THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC 2009.

[First of all: Happy new year, my dears.
Although I'm a little too late I wanna present you my special review of 2009. I will concentrate on Mixtapes and - CDs I've received since I started working on my diploma in the end of August. (Remember my call for inspiring music? See at the right!) It's a pretty low yield for 2009. So again: I'm still working on my diploma and you are still more than welcome to send me music for inspiration!
Robert from Winnipeg gave me a very nice Mix-CD. I showed it in my post from November 29th. He recorded these 10 songs which are very important for him.
In October I got a virtual Mixtape from Markus. Markus comes from Dresden, has a lovely dialect and a fantastic taste in music. Here's the tracklist with You-Tube-links:]

1. Roxette - Crash Boom Bang
2. The Verve - Bitter Sweet Symphony
3. Roxette - The Look
4. The Pet Shop Boys - Go West
5. Roxette - Pearls Of Passion
6. ALF - Intro
7. The Papers - BMX Bandits
8. Die Toten Hosen - Paradies
9. Erasure - Always
10. Madonna - Like A Prayer
11. Roxette - Fading Like A Flower
12. Marky Mark - Happy People
13. Roxette - Joyride
14. Roxette - It Must Have Been Love
15. Gianna Nannini- Bello E Impossibile

Ende November gab mir mein Freund Jan vom Tennis ein Mixtape. Die Kassette ist blau!
[ In the end of November I got a real Mixtape from Jan vom Tennis. The cassette is blue!]

[ Around christmas my lovely friend Andrea gave me a musical present. It's no real Mixtape since there are only two
musicians on it, that she enjoyed very much recently. But nevertheless the CD cover is designed in an adorable way. ]

[One of my most faithful mixtape-friends is Constantin. His personal soundtrack of 2009 was waiting for me in my mailbox as a christmas present. ]

Spannung. Bis dahin. Eure Anja
[ Thanks again to all of my (mixtape-)friends for the support. In the next days I'll return to show some of the work I've got done so far. Excitement! Love. Anja ]

KEVIN DEVINE AND THE GODDAMN BAND.

Also, wie gesagt, Kevin kommt bald wieder nach Deutschland. Hier die Tourdaten.
[ As I already mentioned. Kevin is touring through Germany soon. Here are the tourdates. If you come from far away, I could offer you a place to sleep here. haha. ]

KEVIN DEVINE IN CONCERT.

Huhu.
Danke nochmal an Euch.

[Hey folks.
Here I am again. Went to the concert of Kevin Devine in Gießen yesterday for doing an interview with him for my project. Do I have to mention it again? Kevin is an incredibly great musician and person, even if not all of my friends can share this euphoria with me. Since his new album "Brother's Blood" is totally through-composed it's definitely more a band-album than a singer-songwriter-thing. But even acoustically the new songs are awesome, and the old ones anyway. Also, the acoustic-mood matched definitely better with yesterday's christmas-atmosphere in the MuK in Gießen with seats, hot wine, cookies and candles. The people at the MuK were super nice to me. Thanks again to them! The night took an unexpected turn. But I would prefer to tell it personally to those of you, who wanna here the story (wohoo, excitement!). For now you'll get to see a little slide show and hear an extract from the interview: Kevin about "Write Your Story Now" – the song I picked for my project.
Tip: In february/march Kevin will come back to Germany with his band!
Merry X-Mas, darlings, and till later.]
