ANOTHER ONE.

Danke, Robert!

[ When I wrote this last post yesterday night the next musical present was on its way. It reached me today in the mailbox – another great Mix-CD from Robert (the Winnipeg-guy) with a lot of awesome canadian bands. It really made my day which started so grey and confusing. Thanks, Robert! ]

THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC 2009.

[First of all: Happy new year, my dears.
Although I'm a little too late I wanna present you my special review of 2009. I will concentrate on Mixtapes and - CDs I've received since I started working on my diploma in the end of August. (Remember my call for inspiring music? See at the right!) It's a pretty low yield for 2009. So again: I'm still working on my diploma and you are still more than welcome to send me music for inspiration!
Robert from Winnipeg gave me a very nice Mix-CD. I showed it in my post from November 29th. He recorded these 10 songs which are very important for him.
In October I got a virtual Mixtape from Markus. Markus comes from Dresden, has a lovely dialect and a fantastic taste in music. Here's the tracklist with You-Tube-links:]

1. Roxette - Crash Boom Bang
2. The Verve - Bitter Sweet Symphony
3. Roxette - The Look
4. The Pet Shop Boys - Go West
5. Roxette - Pearls Of Passion
6. ALF - Intro
7. The Papers - BMX Bandits
8. Die Toten Hosen - Paradies
9. Erasure - Always
10. Madonna - Like A Prayer
11. Roxette - Fading Like A Flower
12. Marky Mark - Happy People
13. Roxette - Joyride
14. Roxette - It Must Have Been Love
15. Gianna Nannini- Bello E Impossibile

Ende November gab mir mein Freund Jan vom Tennis ein Mixtape. Die Kassette ist blau!
[ In the end of November I got a real Mixtape from Jan vom Tennis. The cassette is blue!]

[ Around christmas my lovely friend Andrea gave me a musical present. It's no real Mixtape since there are only two
musicians on it, that she enjoyed very much recently. But nevertheless the CD cover is designed in an adorable way. ]

[One of my most faithful mixtape-friends is Constantin. His personal soundtrack of 2009 was waiting for me in my mailbox as a christmas present. ]

Spannung. Bis dahin. Eure Anja
[ Thanks again to all of my (mixtape-)friends for the support. In the next days I'll return to show some of the work I've got done so far. Excitement! Love. Anja ]

KEVIN DEVINE AND THE GODDAMN BAND.

Also, wie gesagt, Kevin kommt bald wieder nach Deutschland. Hier die Tourdaten.
[ As I already mentioned. Kevin is touring through Germany soon. Here are the tourdates. If you come from far away, I could offer you a place to sleep here. haha. ]

KEVIN DEVINE IN CONCERT.

Huhu.
Danke nochmal an Euch.

[Hey folks.
Here I am again. Went to the concert of Kevin Devine in Gießen yesterday for doing an interview with him for my project. Do I have to mention it again? Kevin is an incredibly great musician and person, even if not all of my friends can share this euphoria with me. Since his new album "Brother's Blood" is totally through-composed it's definitely more a band-album than a singer-songwriter-thing. But even acoustically the new songs are awesome, and the old ones anyway. Also, the acoustic-mood matched definitely better with yesterday's christmas-atmosphere in the MuK in Gießen with seats, hot wine, cookies and candles. The people at the MuK were super nice to me. Thanks again to them! The night took an unexpected turn. But I would prefer to tell it personally to those of you, who wanna here the story (wohoo, excitement!). For now you'll get to see a little slide show and hear an extract from the interview: Kevin about "Write Your Story Now" – the song I picked for my project.
Tip: In february/march Kevin will come back to Germany with his band!
Merry X-Mas, darlings, and till later.]

SURPRISE IN THE MAILBOX.

Danke nochmal, Robert.

[ There's something I wanna show here since it was one of the loveliest presents someone gave me recently. Robert from Winnipeg (talked about him in my last post) got inspired from my concept and burned those ten songs on a CD which were and are very important for him in his life. He made a little booklet with all the related stories in it. Funny ones and really heart-melting ones. Very well done. And watch those illustrations! I should turn this in instead of my diploma project. Thanks again, Robert! ]

JOHN K. SAMSON IN CONCERT.

Er hat drei Videos vom Konzert hochgeladen: "Plea From A Cat Named Virtute", "The Last And" und "Confessions Of A Futon-Revolutionist".

[ There is some progress. I finally have a design concept, which most of the participants are pretty much okay with. At the same time material gattering is going on. Yesterday for example I went to Frankfurt to see John K. Samson, who is the singer of The Weakerthans. They are on my tracklist and so I took the opportunity to ask John some questions. A decent fellow. I did my best in I-Movie (with all the crazy effects) and created the following slide show with some of my concert pics and an extract from the interview. John about the meaning of "Left And Leaving" – the song I've chosen. Me affirmative chuckling in the background. Also, there was a boy on the concert – Robert. We talked about photography and it turned out that he is from Winnipeg/Canada (the hometown of the Weakerthans) and studying abroad in Germany at the moment. He videotaped these songs: "Plea For A Cat Named Virtute", "The Last And" and "Confessions Of A Futon-Revolutionist". ]

INTERVIEWS.

Vielen Dank an Melt!Booking.
Vielen Dank an FatWreck-Records.

[ I'm crafting, cutting, glueing, scanning, trying out everything. And then starting all over again! Unless I haven't decided which Design concept I should choose I don't wanna show stuff here.
Instead of this here are the latest concert news:
Weakerthans' singer John K. Samson is touring through Germany soon. Almost all gigs are sold out. But the boys from the German label Grand Hotel Van Cleef made it possible that I can meet him before his gig in Frankfurt on 13th November and ask him some questions. And then watch him playing of course. Thanks again! That's great.
Also, Kevin Devine will come to Germany in December to this places. He's done a quite good job again with his latest record "Brother's blood". People who know me know that I evaluate the quality of a year according to the number of Kevin Devine-concerts. So it's a great honor to interview him for my project on 16th December in Gießen. Thank you, Melt!Booking.
Today I got the answers from the Interview with NoUseForAName's singer Tony via Email. Sweet. Thanks to FatWreck.
Other stars I already had an interview with are my friends René, Marco, Peter, Bertl and Constantin. Thank you. I love you. A special thanks goes to Marco for transcribing all the material.
More interviews will follow soon and all the stories for the songs need to be written. Unfortunately there's no way to stop time…
Back to work. ]

FINAL TRACKLIST.

[ Had a real hard time to choose the songs, that shaped me in any way. But here they are: ]

1. TAKE THAT - Never forget
das offizielle Video gibt's hier.
[ watch the official video here. ]

2. NO USE FOR A NAME - Why doesn't anybody like me?
schau dir das offizielle Video hier an.
[ You may watch the official video here. ]

offizielles Video hier.
[ official video here. ]

4. LOST PATROL - No New Manifesto
Dazu gibt's leider kein Video im Internet. Deswegen schaut Euch erstmal hier an, was Frontbursche Dennis Lyxzen vorher gemacht hat.
[ You can't find a video for this song in the internet. But maybe you wanna see here, what front man Dennis Lyxzen did before this project. Brilliant everytime again! But here is a simple picture-with-sound-video to show you the song: ]

5. WAXWING - G
[ For this song you can't find a video either. There's only a little clip from one of the last concerts of Rocky Votolato's band. And this is the Song I picked: ]

6. THE WEAKERTHANS - Left And Leaving
[ Maybe you remember the little movie of this song from the concert in Berlin, I've been to, which I posted on September 9th. Here you can listen to the original version and see some adorable foxes and there you can watch a different Live-version from San Francisco. ]

7. BRIGHT EYES - Hit The Switch
[ Here you can meet my neurotic friend Conor live in Rochester. And there he was in Chicago and in a really good mood. He even joked around. haha. ]

8. KEVIN DEVINE - Write Your Story Now
[ Here he performed the song for a TV-channel (I guess) and there he was in a school (I'm going to invite him to our school's Christmas-Party, too!). Here he was in Saarbrücken (not far away from Trier) like four years ago. I was there, too. Back then he was still so young and long-haired and not as practiced as today, but I fell in love with him. At least with his music. ]

[ How deep music can go, even if you don't understand anything of what they are singing, you can see/hear in this clip from the marvelous movie "Heima". And there's another Live-version. ]

10. JONAH MATRANGA - 14 to 41
[ This guy isn't that deep but pretty funny instead. The only version of the song I could find you can watch here – it's a livingroom concert on his birthday (allegedly) with a lot of talk and a nice plant. ]

[ Here and there you have two nice performances in Hannover and Berlin. And this one was in my favorite Vegan Café "Hanswurst" in Berlin. And this was in my own backyard in may 2008 in Lindenstraße 40, Trier, where I lived for four years. With awesome people: ]

12. BON IVER - Re:Stacks
[ Here somebody uploaded the song with some nice pictures. And here you can see front man Justin Vernon live in Montreal and realize, that the voice he's talking with is at least four octaves deeper than the one he uses for singing. ]

[ Well, these are MY songs. Dominated by men. uhm… whatever. Have to start writing the stories now and continue interviewing artists and friends and – and that's the main task about the project – do a nice DESIGN for everything. Let's get started! ]

MOTIVATION.

Liebe Freunde.

[ Dear Friends.
The concert in Trier's Café Lübke was a big hit! There were a lot of people – like seldom before. Nevertheless it was a nice and cosy atmosphere in there. See the pictures above (from top to bottom): Me, Jules and Björn.
Björn is a really likable young man and surpassing talented. If you belong to those who live in Austria or Eastern Germany you should try to join one of his gigs. Here are the tourdates again.
After being thoroughly recovered from my little bike accident last friday and with lots of fresh motivation I spent a huge amount of money for some pens and a sketchbook this morning, got out all my collected paper and started with experiments for the illustrations of my book. The way is getting smoother! ]

PROGRESS.

[ Apart from that there's not much to show proving my progress. Most of the time I spent with doing interviews and researching on how I could arrange the book and the text. More update will follow soon! ]
